The Association offers several programmes to learn the Rules of Golf. It is designed for all golfers wishing to improve their level of knowledge of the Rules of Golf including recreational golfers, competitive golfers, professionals and golf referees, or those aspiring to become a golf referee. Whether you have an interest in learning the basics or wish to pursue a certification as a golf referee, the Association offers the right programme for you. Read about each level of education listed below.
3-hours Rules of Golf Workshop (Basic Level)
This is a beginner programme that introduces the basic concepts and language of the Rules of Golf. Examples, videos, animations and exercises are used to introduce the student to the principles of the Rules and how to use the Rules book (Player’s Edition). The programme is ideal for juniors, beginners and golfers who have had no previous experience with the Rules.
1-Day Rules of Golf Workshop (Level 1)
This programme builds on the experience of Basic Level and introduces the key reference manual for golf referees: the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf. This publication is the key to understanding how the Rules of Golf are applied on the course. In addition to introducing some of the fundamental rules through examples, videos and exercises, Level 1 teaches the student how to use the Rules book (Full Edition) as well as the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf effectively when the Rules book alone does not provide the answer.
Certification:
Attain a minimum B Grade Pass on the Level 1 Exam; and
Complete 20 hours of satisfactory on-course experience as an Official at Club-level events.
3-Days Rules of Golf Seminar (Level 2)
Level 2 of the programme is comprised of a three day seminar conducted by the Association. The seminar covers the most common Rules of Golf and includes practical sessions that demonstrate how the Rules apply on the course. To be certified at Level 2, a candidate must successfully pass the exam with a minimum B Grade and meet the minimum practical requirements. This programme leads to (1) admission to the Ordinary membership and/or (2) certification as a National Referee. Every candidate needs to meet this prerequisite requirement before he or she is eligible to advance to Level 3.
Prerequisite: Level 1 Certification
Certification:
Complete Level 2 Rules of Golf Seminar;
Achieve a minimum B Grade Pass on Level 2 Exam;
10 hours accompanying a Certified Referee as an observer; and
Minimum of 50 hours of satisfactory on-course experience as a Referee at club- or national-level events.
3-Days Rules of Golf Seminar (Level 3)
By Invitation only.
